Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has announced that $742,000 was invested in constructing the first-ever FIFA-standard pitch in Ghana’s Upper East Region.

The new facility is part of the FIFA Forward initiative, a key component of Okraku’s commitment to regional football development.

Okraku highlighted FIFA’s commitment to the GFA’s agenda to fix the fundamentals of Ghanaian football, saying:

“The office in France, in Paris, have been very supportive of the Ghanaian FA in our agenda to fix the fundamentals or the very foundation of our football. Today, the people, our brothers and sisters in Upper East have access to a FIFA certified full standard football pitch.

And that pitch houses the first ever GFA elite football academy. I am sure somebody will say, how much did that cost? Today I will tell you. That project funded by FIFA cost $742,000.”

The Upper East Region had lacked a single FIFA-standard pitch until now. The GFA, through the FIFA Forward program, successfully secured approval to build the region’s first-ever standard facility, marking a significant step toward infrastructure equity across Ghana.

The pitch also houses the first-ever GFA elite football academy.
