Ghana U20 coach Desmond Ofei hails team’s tactical discipline

Ghana need just a draw against Central African Republic to book their place to the next stage of the competition

Ghana’s U20 coach, Desmond Ofei, has commended his team’s tactical discipline and fighting spirit following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Senegal in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025.

After drawing against DR Congo in their tournament opener, the Black Satellites had to go all out against Senegal to get a win, and the lads did just that.

Speaking after the game, Ofei praised his team’s efforts.

“It was a very difficult game, no doubt about that,” Ofei said.

“But tactically, I believe we got it right. Senegal came at us with a very direct and physical approach.

“It wasn’t easy, but our players showed great tactical discipline and fighting spirit throughout the game.”

Ofei praised his squad’s commitment and composure under pressure, particularly in holding onto the slim lead.

“The boys followed the game plan, stayed organized, and gave everything on the pitch. That’s all you can ask for as a coach.”

Looking ahead, Coach Ofei emphasized Ghana’s ambition to qualify for the World Cup.

“Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus. Each match and positive result take us a step closer.”

“We want to thank all the fans and Ghanaians back home,” Ofei added. “Your support means everything to us — we feel it all the way out here.”

The win has seen Ghana rise to joint top of Group C alongside DR Congo, who earlier today defeated Central African Republic 3-1.

Ghana now sits on four points, level with DR Congo, and will look to build on this momentum in their final group match against Central African Republic.

Ghana next faces Central African Republic on Thursday, 8th May 2025, in their last Group C match.

“We know the game against the Central African Republic will be difficult,” Ofei said. “But just like today, we’ll fight, prepare well, and give our best.”
