Goldstars down Kotoko, Hearts defeat Lions in GHALCA Top 4

Bibiani Goldstars and Hearts of Oak both started the competition with wins.

The 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament kicked off this afternoon with Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak both recording victories.

Gold Stars came from behind to defeat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the opening match at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Kotoko drew first blood in the 16th minute through forward Albert Amoah, but their lead lasted only six minutes. Gold Stars were awarded a penalty in the 22nd minute, which Samuel Atta Kumi calmly converted to level the score.

The second half was intensely contested until Kotoko defender Henry Ansu accidentally turned the ball into his own net, sealing a comeback victory for the champions.

In the day’s second fixture, Hearts of Oak edged Heart of Lions 1-0 courtesy of a well-taken free kick from Ransford Mensah, ensuring the Phobians began their campaign on a winning note.

The tournament continues on Friday, with Hearts of Oak set to face Gold Stars in a top clash, while Asante Kotoko battle Heart of Lions in the second game of the day.
