Paris Saint Germain manager Luis Enrique has left his thoughts on his team’s impressive performance against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League last 16, stating that it can only get better.
Enrique’s men approached the second-leg clash in England on Tuesday night already being a goal down on aggregate, yet managed to turn their fortunes around with a 1-0 result to win on penalties and ultimately book a place into the last eight of the competition.
The Spanish tactician told the media in a post match interview that he was ‘proud’ of his boys, who showed hunger and resilience all game.
“This is just the beginning. Our mentality is to be better. We showed our strong personality, our character, and we will play our brand of football no matter what pitch we’re on. I’m very happy, and don’t know what to say. Proud of this great team”.
Up next, PSG will face the winner of the Aston Villa-Club Brugge tie in the quarter final, and they will be now considered one of the key favorites to win the competition after knocking out of of the best sides in Europe this season in Liverpool.
Enrique is a previous winner of the competition with the iconic treble-winning FC Barcelona team of 2015.
