Pep Guardiola says Matheus Nunes is not intelligent enough to play in midfield
“He isn’t clever enough for midfield”-Pep drops bombshell revelation on Matheus Nunes

Pep Guardiola is seemingly facing backlash on social media for his post match comments on Matheus Nunes, as he labelled Man City’s no 27 a better suited player for right back rather than one for the middle of the park.
Nunes has often featured as a full back for City this season after the departure of Kyle Walker and the long injury list afforded Guardiola this campaign.
The Portuguese has struggled to compete at the best level in the full back role, and Pep has intensified the claims of Nunes’ critics demanding more from his game.
Speaking to the press about Nunes’ performance after the game against Man United, Pep said: Â “He could become a good right-back due to his physique. I don’t think he’s a player to play in the middle, because he’s not intelligent enough and doesn’t have the necessary composure.”
Since joining Manchester City, Nunes has netted three goals in 62 appearances, and the low return on investment means Pep could see the player offloaded this summer ahead of the 2025/26 season.
