Hearts of Oak edge Vision FC to end winless run

It was the Phobians’ first victory in four matches.

Hearts of Oak beat Vision FC 1-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium, ending their three-game winless run in the Ghana Premier League.

A first-half header from Mawuli Wayo secured the hard-fought victory for the Phobians.

After managing just one win in five matches at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts switched their home venue to Legon for this fixture.

Coach Didi Dramani kept Solomon Agbasi in goal, with first-choice keeper Benjamin Asare out sick. Hussein Mohammed also returned to the starting lineup alongside Abdul Karim and George Paaku.

Hearts started brightly, pushing for an early goal. Hamza Issah’s deflected effort produced a good save, and Vision had to withstand waves of pressure.

The breakthrough finally came in the 42nd minute when Paaku’s cross found Ali Mohammed, who set up Wayo to head home.

The hosts held their 1-0 lead into halftime and continued strongly after the break. Paaku fired wide and Hamza missed another big chance. Vision grew into the game, with Bernard Kwarteng striking the woodwork and Edmond Asante forcing Agbasi into a key save.

Substitute Frank Duku almost doubled the lead in the 79th minute, missing by inches. Vision pushed late for an equaliser but couldn’t find a way through.

The win lifts Hearts to fourth on the league table ahead of tomorrow’s games. They next travel to Tamale to face Karela United on Matchday 13, while Vision host Young Apostles in Tema.
