Inside story of Mohamed Salah’s new two-year Liverpool deal

Salah’s new contract reportedly makes him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League

The contract situations of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have dominated headlines throughout Liverpool’s remarkable season.

But now, Reds fans can breathe a little easier – one of the big three is staying.

Mohamed Salah has officially signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at Anfield until 2027. The Egyptian King will continue to wear the iconic No.11 shirt, much to the delight of fans who chant his name week in and week out.

Salah’s new contract reportedly makes him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League, with earnings of approximately £400,000 per week, totalling around £41.6million throughout the deal.

The trio of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold have once again been instrumental for new head coach Arne Slot, guiding Liverpool to the brink of a record-equalling 20th league title.

Among them, Salah and Van Dijk have now publicly confirmed their intentions to remain at the club they love, one that has embraced them as legends.

Salah delighted to extend Liverpool contract

Trent, however, has remained tight-lipped. The 26-year-old vice-captain has been linked with a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

Reports suggest talks have stalled, and he’s yet to provide clarity as the season nears its climax.

For now, though, fans are celebrating Salah’s commitment – a major win delivered not by divine intervention, but by the club’s often-criticised owners, Fenway Sports Group.

Mohamed Salah’s Impressive Goalscoring Record

Salah’s numbers this season have been nothing short of phenomenal.

The 32-year-old has netted 32 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, with 27 coming in the Premier League, making him the division’s top scorer. He has also registered 22 assists, highlighting his all-round attacking brilliance.

Now in his eighth season at Anfield, Salah is poised to reach a full decade in red.

As the last remaining member of the legendary front three alongside Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, he’s cementing his legacy as one of Liverpool’s all-time greats – potentially even surpassing Steven Gerrard in the hearts of many.

Mohamed Salah Silences Doubters

Since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has shattered records and silenced doubters – including those who once labelled him a Chelsea ‘reject’.

His tally of 243 goals in 394 appearances places him third on Liverpool’s all-time scorers list.

But Salah didn’t come to Merseyside just for records – he came to win, and win he has.

His trophy cabinet boasts seven major honours: the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups. With another Premier League title within touching distance, that count may soon rise to eight.

So, how did Liverpool secure the signature of their talismanic forward once again?

According to the Liverpool Echo, sporting director Richard Hughes spearheaded the negotiations with Salah’s longtime representative, Ramy Abbas Issa.

It’s understood that a pay cut was never on the table. Liverpool fully recognised Salah’s ongoing value to the club and were willing to meet his demands accordingly.

Salah also credited his family – his wife, Magi, and their two daughters – as key influences in his decision to stay on Merseyside. Additionally, his early rapport with Arne Slot played a role in solidifying his future at Anfield.

Slot also praised the club’s hierarchy for securing the services of a world-class player who, as a free agent, would have had a host of lucrative options, including a possible move to the Saudi Pro League.

With Salah’s contract now resolved, fans will hope that Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold follow suit in the coming weeks.

Fingers crossed. As the saying goes, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
