Pedro could make his debut in Friday’s quarter-final tie against Palmeiras

The 23-year-old will put pen to paper on a seven-year contract and will be available to play in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Pedro could make his debut in Friday’s quarter-final tie against Palmeiras in Philadelphia.

Romano posted on X: “Understand João Pedro has completed his medical as new Chelsea player in the US!

“Contract to be signed today as it will be valid until June 2032.

“£55m plus £5m add-ons to Brighton.”

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler earlier expressed optimism about working with Pedro next season.

“Yeah for sure,” said Hurzeler to Sky sports when asked if Pedro and Mitoma will be back at Brighton.

“I’m really looking forward for both of them. They are great players, they helped us last season. They are expected to be back next week.”

Newcastle were also linked with a move for the forward, with Brighton turning down their bid of around £50m for Pedro before the Seagulls agreed terms of £55m, plus £5m in add-ons, with Chelsea.

Pedro missed Brighton’s final home game of the season against Tottenham.

This follows an altercation with a teammate during training, which also led to him being omitted from the matchday squad for the win against Liverpool.

The Brazil forward netted 10 Premier League goals and provided six assists in 27 games for the Seagulls last term.
