Jordan Ayew pays tribute to father Abedi Pele’s impact on his career

Jordan and his elder brother Andre both began their European careers with Marseille

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew has praised his father, the legendary Abedi Pele, for the immense influence he has had on his football journey and that of his siblings.

Speaking to Leicester City’s official website, Jordan highlighted how his father’s legacy shaped their path, noting the pressure that came with being the son of one of Africa’s greatest football icons.

“My dad has done a lot—not just for me, but for our entire family,” Jordan said.

“Following in his footsteps hasn’t been easy, especially with the high expectations back home and in Europe. But I think my brother and I have managed it well, focusing on our own journeys.”

Jordan and his elder brother Andre both began their European careers with their father’s former club, Olympique Marseille, before branching out into different directions.

Now at Leicester City, the younger Ayew has made over 300 appearances in the English Premier League.

He also took a moment to acknowledge the quiet strength of their mother. Jordan Ayew added: “My mum always tells me how proud she is, but mums are always positive!

“Personally, I do feel that both our parents have every reason to be proud of the journey me and my brother have taken.”

Looking ahead, the Black Stars forward believes the Ayew brothers are far from done.

“There’s still more to come from us,” he said, “and hopefully we can keep giving our parents more moments to enjoy.”
