Kotoko edge Goldstars to win Champion of Champions title

Kotoko has now lifted the FA Cup and Champion of Champions title

Asante Kotoko edged Bibiani GoldStars 1-0 at the Dun’s Park in a pulsating contest to clinch the coveted ‘Champion of Champions’ title.

A second half strike from debutant Hamzata Musah was enough to give the Porcupines the needed victory.

The Miners started brightly, making their first major incursion in the fifth minute, but Shaybu Abubakar produced a crucial tackle to deny Atta Kumi.

Abubakar later paved way for Hamzata Musah, who would eventually prove decisive.

GoldStars nearly broke the deadlock through Appiah McCarthy’s well-taken free kick, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara pulled off two outstanding saves to keep his side in the game.

Kotoko returned from recess with a renewed purpose and came close through Albert Amoah, whose towering header was expertly saved by Emmanuel Kobi.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 70th minute when substitute Hamzata Musah latched onto a brilliant Seth Kwadwo cross and fired into the bottom corner to hand the Porcupine Warriors the lead.

That strike proved enough as Kotoko held on to seal a hard-fought victory.

The entertaining clash was the perfect curtain-raiser for the 2025/26 football season.

For Kotoko, the triumph is a timely redemption after a disappointing Top 4 campaign, and the Reds will be eager to build on this momentum going forward.
