Kotoko to host Wydad in Kumasi after CAF approval

The Porcupine Warriors are confident of beating Wydad in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko will host their CAF Confederation Cup first-leg clash against Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi following approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), footiecenter.com understands.

The Porcupine Warriors, who were previously forced to play their home fixture against Kwara United away from Kumasi, have now been cleared to return to their traditional home ground for the crucial first leg on October 19.

According to club sources, CAF’s inspection team gave the green light after assessing the stadium’s readiness for continental competition. The second leg will take place a week later in Morocco.

Despite earlier challenges, Kotoko impressed in the preliminary stage defeating a Nigerian opponent 4–3 away and sealing qualification with a 1–0 win in the return leg.

The news comes as a major boost for the Ghanaian giants, who are confident of advancing further in the competition. The club also expects a massive turnout and strong financial gains from hosting the game in Kumasi.
