The announcement was made on Wednesday in Kampala by FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson.

According to Edgar Watson, the appointment of Mr Kingston follows a deliberate effort to bring on board a full-time coach who will dedicate himself to building Uganda’s under-15, under-17, and under-20 national teams throughout the year.

‘We have been categorical in selecting a coach who is neutral, experienced in both African and international football, and capable of identifying and nurturing young talent,’ he noted.

Kingston, a former Ghana international, holds UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses, bringing a wealth of technical expertise and international experience to Ugandan youth football.

Prior to this appointment, he served as head coach of the Ghana U17 national team and previously worked with FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, where he was part of the renowned Right to Dream Academy a system celebrated for nurturing young African talent.

He succeeds compatriot Samuel Kwesi Fabin, who handled Uganda’s U17 and U20 national sides in 2019. Kingston’s arrival underlines FUFA’s continued confidence in Ghanaian coaches to drive structured youth development and shape the future of Ugandan football.

Meanwhile, Brian Ssenyondo will continue as head coach of the Uganda U17 side as they prepare for next month’s FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar. Ssenyondo has indicated that this will be his final assignment at that level, though he remains open to future roles within the national setup.

Kingston’s appointment is expected to inject fresh energy and a modern tactical direction into Uganda’s junior teams as the nation intensifies efforts to build a sustainable pathway for world-class football talent.
