Bayer 04 Leverkusen has announced that midfielder Florian Wirtz will be sidelined for several weeks following a ligament injury to his right ankle. The injury occurred during the team’s recent match against Werder Bremen, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Leverkusen. An MRI scan conducted after the game confirmed the extent of the injury, prompting concern for both the player and the club.

Simon Rolfes, managing director for sport at Bayer 04, expressed the team’s disappointment at losing Wirtz during this crucial part of the season.
“The loss of Florian obviously hits us hard in this phase of the season, but we will compensate for him with a strong squad”; Rolfes said.
Wirtz has had an impressive season, contributing significantly to the Bayern Leverkusen performance with 15 goals and 15 assists in 39 appearances. His skills and creativity on the field have made him a key player for Bayer Leverkusen, and his absence will be felt as the team looks to compete in the final stretch of the season.
Despite the setback, Rolfes remains optimistic about Wirtz’s recovery.
“We know Florian and also know he will come back as soon as possible. Everybody will support him in that. We are assuming he will be fully fit again for the end of the season run in.”
Leverkusen will now have to adjust their lineup as they continue their pursuit of silverware, hoping to have their star midfielder back in time for the crucial closing weeks of the campaign.
