Barcelona have been closely linked with a transfer for Díaz, despite his repeated declarations of loyalty and love for Liverpool.
The player’s performances, especially during Liverpool’s deep Champions League run and dominance in English football, have made him an attractive target for the Catalan giants.
Díaz has expressed interest in the idea of playing for Barcelona, and reports suggest he is intrigued by the possibility of joining the Spanish club. However, the transfer fee remains a significant hurdle.
Barcelona’s recent success in winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League semifinals has only heightened their desire to strengthen the squad, but their financial situation complicates the deal.
The club would need to meet Liverpool’s hefty asking price to secure the deal. Unlike Aston Villa loanee Moussa Dembélé, who is reportedly willing to accept a pay cut to move to Spain, Díaz’s wages are not expected to be a major obstacle for Barcelona.
The main challenge lies in whether the club can afford the €80 million fee. Barcelona’s financial constraints have limited their transfer spending in recent years, with little room for large-scale investments.
Since Antoine Griezmann’s €120 million transfer from Atlético Madrid in 2019, Barcelona has not spent more than €80 million on a single player.
Their total expenditure over their last eight signings has been around €90 million, reflecting a cautious approach due to ongoing financial struggles.

The club’s focus on balancing their books has made any significant transfer a complex and costly process.
