Liverpool win race to sign Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz

Liverpool have moved ahead to convince Florian Wirtz to switch to England instead of signing for Bayern Munich

Liverpool have reportedly won the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Florian Wirtz, with reports indicating that the German was seen house-hunting before his potential switch to Anfield, according to journalist David Ornstein.

Wirtz, who has been at the center of a serious transfer battle between Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich, has reportedly been sighted in Merseyside, following a potential agreement with Arne Slot’s side.

The Bayern Munich target’s family met with the Reds earlier this month, and the transfer race continues to heat up. The recent development is fuelling speculation that he could be set to join Liverpool this summer.

Bayern were said to be leading the pack for the 22-year-old’s signature after reportedly agreeing on personal terms with the player and his representatives – but club-to-club agreement are yet to be finalized.

Vincent Kompany and Bayern will be the most disappointed should the German international move abroad to Slot’s Liverpool, after rumours had suggested the player’s family had “given their word” he would move to the Allianz Arena either this summer or next.

Man City, on the other hand, are believed to have pulled out of the deal due to concerns over the cost of the deal.

For the second consecutive season, Wirtz has reached double digits in goals and assists for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, making him one of the hottest youngsters in Europe at the moment.

The attacking midfielder has already racked up over 220 appearances and 60 goals for club and country.

According to  Bild, Bayern chiefs are beginning to “fear” Liverpool, and Wirtz is said to be already house-hunting in the north-west.

The young player’s family met with senior Reds officials during a trip earlier this month, which also included a visit to City’s training ground.

The midfielder may likely land with Liverpool, as the report suggests that Bayern are mulling over Bayer Leverkusen’s transfer demands, including a staggering fee of £125 million.

Despite Bayern’s readiness to meet Leverkusen’s demands, the reports add that the Bavarians fall significantly short of Die Werkself valuation.

It is believed that if Liverpool are willing to increase their initial bid, their Munich-based rivals could find themselves outpriced, turning things in their favour.

However, Bayern bosses aren’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. Club president Uli Hoeness is believed to be arranging a meeting with the Wirtz family at his residence, where they hope to make headway and “strike a deal” before Liverpool can step in.

Liverpool are also on the verge of completing a deal with Leverkusen for wing-back teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who has undergone a medical ahead of a £30m first agreement of the summer.
