Luis Enrique hails PSG’s resilience after UCL semis qualification

Luis Enrique has heaped loads of praise on PSG’s performance against Aston Villa in both legs of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final, stating that what they have achieved this season is incredible.

Paris suffered a 3-2 defeat in the second-leg of the Champions League last-8 in England, yet managed to hold onto their aggregate advantage after the convincing 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes.

A 5-4 win on aggregate means PSG have booked back-to-back semi-final slots in the last two seasons in Europe and are on course for their first Champions League title as they remain one of the tournament favorites.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the cagy affair at Villa Park, Enrique left his thoughts on how his team managed to cope and what the win means for them going forward, insisting that their performance and resilience is a testament of how far they have come in recent years.

“This was really a difficult game here with their home fans. But these kind of games are normal. In the end, we did what we had to, and I will say what we have achieved is incredible”, he said

“We conceded two goals in three minutes, but I think we can grow up and learn from our suffering. We tried to play the same way in Paris, trying to keep the ball, create chances and score a goal. With the young players we have, this is something impressive and I think we have to thank the fans for their support and keep going”, Enrique added.

Luis Enrique was the man who led FC Barcelona to their second treble in his first season at his boyhood club in 2015, and will be aiming to attain a similar feat in his second year in Paris this term.

PSG have got the quality to go all the way, but they showed they can be fragile in crucial games like against Villa, and that is an aspect the Spanish coach will be keeping a close eye on in the next round.
