Luka Modric set for AC Milan medical

The 39-year-old’s current contract with Madrid expires this summer

Luka Modric is set to undergo a medical ahead of completing a proposed transfer to AC Milan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 39-year-old’s current contract with Madrid expires this summer and is set to leave the club following the conclusion of the Club World Cup.

Modric has been included in Xabi Alonso’s squad for the revamped tournament in the US.

Romano posted on X: “Luka Modrić to undergo medical and complete formal steps of AC Milan move after the Club World Cup.

“No signature/official steps before that as Modrić wants to focus on Real Madrid at the best level possible until the end.”

Madrid commence their Club World Cup campaign by facing Al-Hilal in Miami on June 18 before taking on Pachuca and RB Salzburg.

Several clubs in Saudi Arabia and the MLS were keen on signing Modri, but the former Tottenham midfielder has decided to keep playing in Europe.

Modric moved to Real Madrid from Spurs in 2012 and has since gone on to feature in 591 games for Los Blancos.

He has won several titles, including the Champions League a staggering six times during his career, while he also earned the Ballon d’Or in 2018.

The Croatia captain racked up 57 appearances for Madrid in all competitions last season, including 35 in La Liga.
