Man City boss Pep Guardiola issues injury update ahead of Wolves clash

Guardiola has welcomed the return of Rodri and Erling Haaland to full first-team training

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided a fitness update on his squad ahead of their Premier League clash with Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.

City are enjoying a strong run of form in the league and recently booked their place in the FA Cup final with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals at Wembley, thanks to goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol.

Guardiola has welcomed the return of key duo Rodri and Erling Haaland to full first-team training in recent weeks.

The Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder and prolific striker are working their way back as City aim to finish the season strongly, chasing a top-five Premier League finish and an eighth FA Cup title in the club’s history.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Guardiola offered an update on when fans can expect to see Rodri and Haaland back in action.

“We are really pleased Erling is back and Rodri is back in the training sessions,” the 54-year-old said.

“The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes and after that he will start to play minutes. But the doctors have to tell me.

“It was a difficult injury. It was seven months to eleven months more or less the doctors said.

“When the doctor says Rodri is stable and he can play, after that he is going to come back.”

John Stones and Nathan Aké remain sidelined for the 2023 treble winners, highlighting a recurring issue in Manchester City’s season – the inability to keep key players consistently fit across multiple positions.

Oscar Bobb’s campaign has also been disrupted by persistent fitness problems, with the Norwegian suffering a hamstring injury in the days leading up to City’s 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park in April.
