Man City set deadline for Jack Grealish sale

Jack Grealish is expected to leave Man City this season, either on loan or permanently

Manchester City have set a deadline to sell their £100 million winger Jack Grealish this summer, after falling behind the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.

Grealish, who failed to make the cut for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City squad for the Club World Cup, has been granted permission to seek a new club after another disappointing season with limited minutes on the pitch.

Manchester City aimed to resolve Grealish’s future before the start of pre-season, but that prospect is proving increasingly challenging, according to GiveMeSport.

City’s reported high demands for the player have hindered the prospects of any serious bid from several clubs, with the report claiming no club has yet come close to producing an acceptable offer.

Guardiola’s side are open to a permanent or loan deal, with the English international keen to play in Europe as he aims to relaunch his career.

The 29-year-old is focused on securing a spot in next summer’s World Cup squad, having not yet been selected by England manager Thomas Tuchel. Consistent playing time is crucial for the former Aston Villa forward to reclaim his place on the international stage.

Newcastle United have been linked with the attacking midfielder, but they have not yet initiated contact or submitted an offer.

Serie A champions Napoli and AC Milan have also expressed interest in the player but have not made formal bids, as they continue to explore other possibilities.

Last season, Grealish only managed to score 6 goals and provided 4 assists in all competitions for the FA Cup runners-up.

Grealish joined Aston Villa at the age of six, and made his debut for the club in May 2014, following a loan at Notts County, becoming club captain in 2019.

In 2021, Grealish was signed by City in a transfer deal worth £100 million, making him, at the time, the most expensive British player ever.

Grealish has faced a challenging period at City, grappling with personal and on-field difficulties that have impacted his performance, prompting the club to seek reinforcements in the form of Jérémy Doku.

The signs now strongly suggest that Grealish’s departure from City is increasingly likely, as the club explores solutions that benefit both the player and themselves, aiming to rebuild and contend for titles in the upcoming season.
