Ruben Amorim is expected to drop Andre Onana for the game against Newcastle over the weekend
Man United boss Ruben Amorim to drop Andre Onana against Newcastle

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly considering dropping goalkeeper Andre Onana after his poor display against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final encounter on Thursday night.
In a game that almost looked like the Red Devils had snatched an important away win in the tie, Onana fluffed a shot, which eventually landed in front of Rayan Cherki to follow up for the equaliser.
Onana had one of the worst nights in his career for Manchester United in their 2-2 draw at Lyon, and now he could pay for that with his place in the team at Newcastle possibly shaky.

Reports say Amorim is seriously considering leaving the goalkeeper behind for Manchester United’s visit to Newcastle on Sunday.Â

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper was at fault for both of the Ligue 1 side’s goals, wrongly judging the trajectory of the shots, which resulted in both howlers.
Amorim publicly defended Onana in his post-match interview, but now a report from the Daily Mail indicates that the Portuguese is considering taking him out of the squad for Sunday’s clash at St. James’ Park.

Onana could be replaced by the Turkish international Altay Bayindir should he be left out of the side.
However, that could be a gamble for the 26-year-old who’s last seven previous appearances for United have come outside the Premier League.
His introduction could be one of the many surprise changes made by Amorim, with the United boss saying:
“We have to face Newcastle with a team that can be competitive to win the game.
“Sometimes winning games is the best way of preparing for the next one. Of course, I am going to be careful with some players but again we need to be competitive.”
Amorim’s decision to make changes to his side could only be seen as prioritising the Europa League for the remainder of the season, with United down in 13th place in the Premier League, with no hope of cutting European Football – winning the Europa League automatically puts them back into the Champions League conversation.
