Man United negotiated a sell-on clause worth up to 50% when they sold Greenwood to Marseille

Manchester United stand to earn a substantial sum from any future transfer involving Mason Greenwood away from Marseille.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils negotiated a sell-on clause worth up to 50% when they sold the forward to the French club.

Although the charges were later dropped, he never played for the club again.

Mason Greenwood has scored 15 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille this season

He initially moved on loan to Getafe before securing a permanent transfer to Marseille, where he has impressed with 15 goals in 26 Ligue 1 appearances.

Despite his strong performances, Mason Greenwood appears to have fallen out of favour with Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The forward has been left out of the squad for the last two matches, raising questions about his future at the club.

His situation could potentially impact his market value, which in turn might reduce the financial benefit for United.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reportedly shown interest in the 22-year-old, but if Marseille are forced to lower their asking price, United’s anticipated cash windfall could be diminished.

Greenwood now faces the challenge of regaining De Zerbi’s trust if he hopes to reclaim his place in the team.

The former Brighton boss said: “I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.

“If he wants to achieve his ambition of becoming a champion, he has to be more consistent, sacrifice more and be more determined.”
