Manchester City confirm signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan

Reijnders is eligible for this month’s Club World Cup in America

Manchester City have completed the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for an initial fee of £46.5m.

The 26-year-old has penned a five-year deal and becomes Pep Guardiola’s fourth summer signing following the arrival of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki.

Reijnders is eligible for this month’s Club World Cup in America and could make his debut on June 18 against Wydad FC.

“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said.

“City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.

“It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.

“I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”

Reijnders, who was named Serie A midfielder of the year, racked up 54 appearances, scored 15 goals, and provided five assists for AC Milan, who finished eighth and failed to qualify for any European competition.

He recently extended his stay at the Serie A club until June 2030.

Man City brought in Nico Gonzalez from Porto in the winter transfer window, however, with Kevin De Bruyne leaving, the Premier League giants want to strengthen their squad.

The signing of Reijnders will help ease the burden on Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, who made his comeback from a lengthy anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury layoff for the penultimate league game against Bournemouth.

Reijnders is a dynamic No.8 who can also be deployed effectively as a defensive midfielder.

He moved to AC Milan from Eredivisie side AZ in 2023. The Dutchman played a key role for the Netherlands who reached the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championship.

Reijnders has made 22 appearances for the national team season since making his debut in 2023, scoring four goals in the process.
