Manchester United boosted by key duo’s return ahead of Wolves clash

The Man United pair made premature exits from Old Trafford during the Europa League game against Lyon

Manchester United defenders Noussair Mazraoui and Victor Lindelof are in line to return to Premier League action after being forced off early during the midweek clash against Lyon.

Both players made premature exits from Old Trafford during that Europa League fixture.

Mazraoui was substituted at half-time due to an unspecified issue, while Lindelof, who had started the game on the bench, also departed the stadium early with a separate concern.

However, in a positive development for Ruben Amorim’s side, both defenders were spotted arriving at Old Trafford on Sunday morning ahead of United’s Premier League meeting with Wolves.

It remains to be seen how involved Mazraoui and Lindelof will be, with manager Amorim publicly stating that the team’s progression to the Europa League semi-finals will prompt squad rotation and increased opportunities for younger players in domestic fixtures.

Regardless of their potential minutes, Manchester United fans will be encouraged to see both players back in contention and seemingly over their respective issues.

Amorim said: “We had a problem with Nouss at half-time and Vic had a personal problem and he had to leave, so all this stuff happened during this game, but in the end it was a good game.”

The Red Devils’ domestic campaign is all but over, with a lower mid-table finish looking increasingly likely.

Their only remaining path to European qualification is through a historic Europa League victory.

Given their recent struggles, winning this trophy would be a significant achievement, which makes Amorim’s decision to prioritise the competition above all else understandable.
