Matheus Cunha closing in on £62.5m move to Man United

Matheus Cunha is nearing a £62.5million transfer to Manchester United, according to BBC Sport.

The Brazilian forward spent the weekend in Manchester meeting with United officials to finalise the details of his move from Wolves.

Cunha was given clearance by Wolves to undergo a medical last week.

The 26-year-old was spotted leaving the Lowry Hotel on Sunday morning before heading back to Brazil to begin preparations for Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

This match will mark Carlo Ancelotti’s first game in charge.

Assuming no last-minute issues arise, Cunha is set to become Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer, with visa approval expected to be a mere formality.

Since initially joining Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, Cunha has scored 33 goals in 92 appearances.

Wolves secured his permanent transfer at the end of that season for a fee of up to €40million (£35million).

The Red Devils are poised to strip Marcus Rashford of the iconic No.10 shirt to hand it to Cunha.

Rashford, who has worn the number since 2018, is expected to lose the shirt after being made available for transfer.

The England international appears to have no future under Ruben Amorim, who authorised Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa in January.

Rashford was notably absent from United’s 32-man squad for their post-season tour of Asia, which followed their 2-0 victory over a 10-man Villa side last Sunday.
