Mike Maignan transfer to Chelsea now ‘off’

The Blues are not willing to meet Milan’s price for Maignan

Chelsea’s pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has fallen through, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are not willing to meet Milan’s price for Maignan, who has just one year remaining on his current contract.

The Rossoneri are under no pressure to sell Mike Maignan, but a summer departure is likely.

Romano posted on X: “Mike Maignan deal now OFF between Chelsea and AC Milan.

“Chelsea not willing to meet Milan price, deal not proceeding in time for Club World Cup as #CFC won’t pay “CWC tax”.

“#CFC mantain full trust in Petrović, Sánchez, Jorgensen + talent Mike Penders for GK role.”

Chelsea wanted the deal finalised in time for the upcoming Club World Cup, however, they will now turn their attention to other targets.

Maignan racked up 53 appearances across all competitions last season for AC Milan

Maignan, who has been linked with an exit in recent months, is high on the Blues’ shortlist this summer as Enzo Maresca looks to bring in a new shot-stopper following Robert Sanchez’s inconsistent performances last season.

The 27-year-old made the most errors leading directly to a goal in the Premier League last campaign.

Chelsea were reportedly not in the market for a goalkeeper as they assess their current options of Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Sanchez, and Mike Penders, who will join the club from Genk.

However, the Europa Conference League winners are keen to sign Maignan, having kept tabs on the France No.1 goalkeeper since his time at Lille.

Maignan racked up 53 appearances across all competitions last season for AC Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A and failed to qualify for any European competition.
