Nico Gonzalez completes move to Newcastle United

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Nico Gonzalez from Premier League rivals Manchester City for a fee worth £47 million plus £3 million in add-ons, after an agreement was reached between both clubs for the midfielder.

The 24-year-old underwent his medical on Wednesday, and was spotted for the first time in Newcastle to sign all paperwork for his switch to the Tyneside club.

The Magpies have been keen for reinforcement in the middle of the park, following the departure of key players, including their captain, Bruno Guimaraes, who signed for the Premier League champions, Arsenal, this summer.

Man City signed Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto for £50m in February 2025 as cover and to offer competition for Rodri, but after making just 26 Premier League starts, he has now signed a five-year deal at St. James’ Park.

The Spanish midfielder will now seek to relaunch his career under new manager Mathias Jaissle, following the confirmation of his move, where he will play a key role after a very disappointing campaign in the last 18 months at the Etihad Stadium.

Nico has signed a five-year contract until 2031, way before the summer transfer window for the Premier League and EFL in England closes on Tuesday, September 1, and will wear the No. 6 shirt for The Toons.
