The Black Stars faced off against Chad and Madagascar, and the biggest surprise inclusion between the sticks was Benjamin Asare who was picked ahead of Jojo Wollacott and Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
Speaking to reporters after Ghana’s 3-0 away win over Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifier, the 49-year-old mentioned that even though the next round of games will be in June, Asare will remain the preferred choice between the posts.

“At this point, the next game is in June, but at the moment, I think he [Benjamin Asare] is number one. We have decided on him. He did well in training,” Addo said.
Competition in that department is now keen, with Ati-Zigi and Wollacott pushing for a starting berth.
But the coach praised Asare’s work ethic and performances in both league matches and training, making a case for his rise to the number-one spot.
“Big props to them for pushing him… this is really good teamwork. Benjamin deserved it,” coach Addo added.
“He did well in the league and also in the few training sessions we had; he did very well, and I am happy for him.”
