Ruben Amorim plans summer move for Sporting star Francisco Trincao

Ruben Amorim has made signing a wide player a top priority

Ruben Amorim is planning a summer return to Sporting Lisbon to bring in £35million-rated winger Francisco Trincao, according to the Sun.

The Manchester United manager has made signing a wide player a top priority, with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford likely to leave Old Trafford after their respective loans.

Trincao, who scored twice for Portugal in Sunday’s 5-2 Nations League victory over Denmark, is at the top of the list for United’s recruitment, having worked with the player during his time in charge at Sporting.

The 25-year-old former Barcelona winger once had a £400million-plus buyout clause when he made the move to Spain.

However, Francisco Trincao struggled to establish himself at Barcelona and spent a season on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After another loan stint at Sporting, Amorim made his move permanent, helping Trincao find stability and success.

Trincao is predominantly a left-footed right winger, although he is capable of playing on either flank or even through the middle. Both Newcastle and Arsenal have been monitoring his progress.

However, the biggest challenge in securing Trincao may come from Barcelona, who still hold a buy-back clause worth just over £20million.

Despite this, Amorim is hopeful that his past working relationship with the player and the opportunity to reunite with his former manager will entice Trincao to make the move to Manchester United.

Man United May Increase Rashford’s Asking Price

Meanwhile, it’s reported that United may raise their asking price for Aston Villa loanee Marcus Rashford, who has earned a recall to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

Man United had initially considered offloading the 27-year-old for around £35-40million at the end of the season. However, reports now suggest he could be valued at close to £60million.

It’s also been suggested that Rashford still dreams of joining Barcelona.
