Serie A side out of race to sign Man City star Kevin De Bruyne

Italian side Como are now out of the race to sign Kevin De Bruyne in the summer

Italian Serie A side Como are reportedly out of the race to sign departing Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne in the summer.

Como’s dream of acquiring the services of De Bruyne has fallen flat as reports have revealed that they are not in the race for Man City legend, despite reports claiming contact has been made with the player’s representatives.

The Italian club has given a good account of itself, putting up a strong first season since returning to the top flight for the first time in over two decades.

Como manager, Cesc Fabregas, had been linked with a move for the departing Belgian midfielder and was looking to add the experienced Belgian international to their midfield alongside Dele Alli.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Como has not made contact with the player.

The report also reveals Chelsea’s interest, but confirms that the Blues are not in active talks with the player.

Aside from Como and Chelsea, two Major League Soccer giants, Inter Miami and Chicago Fire have also shown interest, with Fire’s proposal revealed 10 days ago, still on the table for the attacking midfielder.

Premier League side Aston Villa have held internal discussions regarding a potential move for De Bruyne, as they look to bolster their squad with a move for the 33-year-old.

De Bruyne’s imminent departure from City has been one of two different stories – one from the player’s camp, insisting he did not choose to leave City this summer, rather it was the club’s choice not to offer him a new deal.

The attacking midfielder has struggled to find form in the past couple of season, as he navigates through inconsistency and fitness.

Many have argued that this could be the reason why Pep Guardiola and City have decided not to engage in further contract talks to keep one of the highest earners at the Etihad as they seek to restructure for next season.

There is still some time left for the season to end, and the City captain will surely have more time in the summer to asses his options – he will surely have no shortage of suitors.

He could potentially move outside of Europe for the first time in his career, as Saudi League calls keep ringing, however, a move to Italy with Como now seems unlikely.
