Ter Stegen set to meet Barcelona chiefs to discuss future

Ter Stegen is looking to resolve his future with Barcelona before the new season starts

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set for a meeting with club chiefs to discuss his future amid rumours of an exit following Joan Garcia’s signing this summer.

Ter Stegen is concerned about his future at the Catalan club, and is preparing for a discussion with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and manager Hansi Flick to clarify any “confusion” as La Liga champions close in on €25m Joan Garcia signing.

The German shot-stopper has a contract with the La Liga champions till 2028 and would like to stay at the club beyond this season, having missed out on some important fixtures for Flick’s side due to a long absence on the sidelines.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Ter Stegen is set to meet with Joan Laporta and Hansi Flick to understand his future at the club.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper missed out on a chunk of games after sustaining an injury since September, and underwent surgery for the “complete rupture in the patella tendon” he suffered against Villarreal.

Barcelona had to respond by calling veteran Polish goalie Wojciech Szczesny back from retirement at age 34 years old to take his place – with little trust in backup goalkeeper Inaki Pena to hold the forth towards their title challenge.

The German international is positive that despite Barcelona being close to the signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol, he still has what it takes to continue as the number one choice after putting on an excellent display for Germany in the Nations League.

Barcelona hope to strengthen their squad after a stellar season under coach Flick, with whom they won the domestic treble and reached the Champions League semi-final. They will want to resolve their issue with Ter Stegen swiftly before pre-season.
