Madrid showed their usual resilience and came close to scoring many times through Kylian Mbappe, yet Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili showed up big many times to deny the Frenchman.

In the early minutes of the second half, Real responded from a corner as Jude Bellingham flicked on a header to find Vinicius Jr, who restored parity for the hosts.

Madrid kept on piling the pressure on the visitors in the final 20 minutes of the game, yet Valencia showed resilience in defense, holding on as the minutes on the clock ticked slowly.

In the final minutes of injury time, Valencia did the unexpected to grab their first win at the Santiago Bernabeu in 17 years, with Hugo Duro launching onto a cross from Rafa Mir to write the new story.

The win means Madrid fall three points behind Barca who feature later on Saturday night against Real Betis.
