Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his excitement about the return of football, stating he is “happy football is coming back.”
Tanko also vowed to field a strong team when his side faces Bechem United in the week 23 clash of the Ghana Premier League.
The league had been temporarily suspended since February 2 following the tragic murder of Francis Frimpong Pooley during a week 19 match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman.
“It is very unfortunate [regarding] what happened,” Tanko told the club’s media. “We are happy football is coming back that every week, we [will] play football in Ghana.
“When you look at this week, the way the boys trained and worked, definitely, I am hopeful that we will make them [fans] happy this weekend.
“We almost have everyone on board. The training was very good and definitely, we are going to have a strong squad against Bechem. We are very ready.”
GFA Approves Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved enhanced matchday safety and security protocols for various football competitions, aiming to combat hooliganism.
These measures include the appointment of club safety and security officers and the installation of CCTV cameras at match venues.
Clubs that fail to comply with or cooperate with the new protocols will face sanctions, including a GH₵20,000 fine and a potential venue ban.
