Chelsea expected to sign Jadon Sancho permanently despite get-out clause

Chelsea are still expected to make Jadon Sancho’s loan move from Manchester United permanent this summer, despite the presence of a get-out clause in the deal, according to Sky Sports.

If Chelsea choose to terminate the £25m obligation attached to Sancho’s ongoing season-long loan, Manchester United would be entitled to a £5m penalty.

The Blues are expected to be in the market for a new winger in the summer, though this decision is influenced by the uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk’s future.

The Ukrainian winger was provisionally suspended by the FA in December after testing positive for a banned substance.

Sancho made an encouraging start to his Chelsea loan, providing three assists in his first three Premier League appearances.

However, his form has dipped recently. The 24-year-old has not been involved in a goal since January 4 and has only registered one shot on target since Boxing Day.

Despite this, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has continued to praise Sancho.

“For me, he’s doing very well,” Maresca said in January.

“I am quite surprised with Jadon, because I knew Jadon already [from seeing him at his previous clubs] and I know what I expected from him, but in terms of being consistent, he’s doing very well.”

Jadon Sancho, who was signed by Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for £73million, departed Old Trafford after a fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag.
