Ancelotti says Madrid must beat Barca to win remaining silverware

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Real Madrid need to defeat Barcelona in their upcoming Copa del Rey final and also in La Liga if they want silverware this season.

Madrid have already fallen to Barca this term in two huge defeats, both in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup final, but Real have an opportunity to rewrite the story this campaign.

Ancelotti insists that after his team’s elimination from the Champions League, the onus is on Madrid to hand Barcelona two defeats, and that would be enough for them to hold onto two titles at the end of this term.

Speaking to the press ahead of Real’s crucial La Liga away fixture at Getafe, Ancelotti revealed what the plan is for winning silverware with less than eight matches to the end of the season, stating that victory over Barca is they key.

“If we want to win both Copa del Rey and La Liga, we have to beat Barcelona. W e have to win against them and this is clear without any doubts”, he said.

Real will be aiming to continue where they left off in La Liga on Sunday night when they hosted Athletic Club, and a win against Getafe would be the perfect result for confidence ahead of the Copa del Rey final this weekend.

Should Real edge Barcelona in the final, it would be their second Spanish Cup title in three years, after their 2-1 win over Mallorca in the 2022/23 season.
