Real Madrid have reportedly intensified talks with Arsenal’s William Saliba as a priority transfer target in the summer.

Indications are that Madrid have been locked in William Saliba transfer talks “for weeks” with the Arsenal defender a ‘priority’ summer target for Los Blancos.

L’Equipe reports that the Spanish club have been in contact with Saliba’s entourage “for weeks” and that they willing to test Arsenal’s resolve in the coming months.

The reigning La Liga champions view Saliba as a long-term solution at the back for years to come.

Madrid have suffered long-term injuries to key personnel in defence this season, with David Alaba and Eder Militao both missing more than half of the campaign.

Saliba is seen as a potential leader to give stability and consistency at the back for the Spanish giants.

The 24-year-old has developed into one of the world’s best centre-backs and could significantly improve the La Liga giants’ defence.

The French international has just two years left on his contract at Arsenal, so this could be their last chance to sell him for a big transfer fee.

The Gunners have tabled a contract extension, but L’Equipe reports that Real are the one club that could lure the Frenchman away from the Emirates.

Saliba will surely be in the line-up for Arsenal against PSG in their Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday, after suffering a 1-0 defeat to a matured Paris Saint-Germain after the first leg.

They then travel to Anfield to play Liverpool in the Premier League on 11th May.
