Man United and Chelsea in battle for Liam Delap’s signature

Delap is expected to leave Ipswich Town following their relegation from the Premier League

Manchester United face stiff competition from Chelsea for the signing of Liam Delap this summer, with both clubs ready to go head-to-head for the promising striker.

Delap is expected to leave Ipswich Town following their relegation from the Premier League.

He’s widely tipped to be among the first major moves once the transfer window opens on June 1. However, his next destination remains uncertain.

The 22-year-old has impressed in his debut Premier League campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 35 appearances for Ipswich.

Despite playing in a struggling team, Delap showcased his talent and consistency, prompting top-flight interest.

His £30million release clause was triggered automatically following Ipswich’s drop to the Championship, meaning a summer exit is inevitable.

Reports had previously indicated that Delap favoured a move to Manchester United over Chelsea, despite United’s underwhelming domestic season.

He was linked with a double swoop worth £92.5million alongside Wolves’ forward Matheus Cunha, with United boss Ruben Amorim keen to bolster his attacking options.

However, Delap’s decision could hinge on the outcome of the Europa League final, where Manchester United will face Tottenham next Wednesday.

A win would not only secure silverware but also a coveted spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League – something that may help sway the striker’s choice.

Chelsea, on the other hand, currently sit fifth in the Premier League with two games remaining and are already in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification.

According to The Sun, the Blues may also hold a crucial advantage in the form of Enzo Maresca.

The newly appointed Chelsea boss previously coached Delap during their time together at Manchester City’s academy and could play a pivotal role in luring the striker to west London.
