This tournament will be the first of its kind at the U-20 level, following separate tournaments in WAFU A and WAFU B that also serve as qualifications for the U-20 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

The U-20 WAFU A&B Boys Cup will take place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the final set for the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

The tournament offers countries of both WAFU zones more competition and football development at the youth level in the season.

The upcoming maiden WAFU A & B Championship in Ghana presents an opportunity for coach Desmond Ofei to begin rebuilding the U-20 team, following their failure to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Despite topping their group, Ghana was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Egypt after a thrilling 2-2 draw, eventually losing on penalties.

It remains to be seen whether Desmond Ofei will keep his job or if the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will make changes to the technical team in the wake of the team’s disappointing performance at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
