Arsenal ignites their chase for a new winger with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo at the top of their list

Rodrygo for Real Madrid

Arsenal are reportedly leading the pack in their race to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo, amid rumours the winger is unsettled at the Bernabeu.

Reports have it that the Gunners have emerged as ‘genuine contenders’ in a race to land Rodrygo from Real Madrid as Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe push Brazilian star towards the exit door of the Spanish giants.

About a week ago, news had surfaced that the Madrid star was about to spark a transfer battle after expressing the desire to leave the Spanish capital.

According to TalkSPORT, Arsenal are looking to reinforce their squad by signing a new winger to help them end their Premier League title drought, and one name under serious consideration is Rodrygo.

TalkSPORT further reveals that the Brazilian is thought to be ‘unsettled’ at Santiago Bernabeu as he remains overlooked for Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, which magnifies Mikel Arteta’s hopes for a possible move in the summer.

Reports have emerged that Madrid are ready to cash in on the £85m-rated attacker, with Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool also said to be monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation.

Despite all the rumours, Rodrygo has come out recently to dismiss all speculations – suggesting any imminent exit – that he refused to play for Los Blancos in their 4-3 loss against Barcelona in their fourth and final El Clasico of the season.

On the contrary, ESPN Spanish correspondent Sam Marsden said there is “more than a suggestion” Rodrygo could leave Madrid this summer.

“I think that Real Madrid have to make a big decision this summer. Rodrygo seems to be the one that’s being pushed towards the door, I think one of Rodrygo or potentially even Vinicius Jr has to go,” he told talkSPORT.

“Rodrygo has made it clear he wants to play on the left, he’s been playing on the right at Real Madrid so he’s the most obvious one to go. But Vinicius Jr might be a bigger money-spinner, and may actually fix their problems a little bit more because they’ve kind of got that status problem between Vinicius Jr, Mbappe, [Jude] Bellingham in the shadows as well.

“Maybe Xabi Alonso can make it work, but it’s not worked at all this season.”
