Atletico Madrid forward Julain Alvarez has ignited uncertainty around his future at the Wanda Metropolitano after the emphatic Champions League victory over Tottenham Hotspur, amid strong interest from Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal.

Diego Simeone’s side confidently defeated Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 on Tuesday night, gaining an advantage in securing their place in the quarter-finals of the UCL.

Meanwhile, not only have Chelsea and Arsenal been linked with the Argentine World Cup winner, but La Liga leaders Barcelona have also been mooted for a big-money move for the forward.

Alvarez, who scored a brace and delivered an assist for Atletico against Tottenham, sent shockwaves over his future with the La Liga giants when questioned after his exploits on Tuesday night, admitting he is unsure of his stay in the Spanish Capital next season. The 26-year-old declined to give a straightforward answer concerning his future.

Barcelona are reportedly strong contenders to secure his signature, viewing him as the ideal successor to Robert Lewandowski, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also been monitoring his situation.

When quized after the euphoric night in front of Atletico’s ecstatic fans following their victory over their struggling English counterparts, Tottenham, the former Manchester City forward said:

“I have nothing to say. These are things that get talked about; there’s a lot of talk on social media, too, everyone posts their opinion, it all blows up. I never said anything, I’m fine here, very happy, competing in all the competitions,” he began, per Diario AS.

“I never said anything, it’s just talk. It gets blown out of proportion. I’m happy at Atletico, content, fighting. We’re doing well in the Champions League, and we’re in the Copa del Rey final.”

Pushed on whether he could join another team for the 2026/27 campaign, Alvarez added: “What do I know? Maybe yes, maybe no, you never know. I’m very happy here. It’s a question that keeps coming up, but I’m happy. I’m focused on the day-to-day, working to improve and give my all. I never said anything bad about the club. I’m very grateful. The people showed me their affection, and I’m very happy.”
