Tottenham confirm Omar Marmoush loan deal with Man City

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the transfer with Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signing of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush on an initial season-long loan deal.

Spurs have been ruthless in the transfer market since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival, completing seven major deals this summer before adding Marmoush to their ambitious rebuilding project under the Italian tactician.

The loan deal includes an obligation to buy the Egyptian international for £60m, which is split into £50m initial fee and £10m in add-ons at the end of his loan move.

Marmoush will become De Zerbi’s seventh signing of the summer, following a busy window that has already seen Spurs smash their transfer record.

Sandro Tonali arrived from Newcastle United for £100m, while Mateus Fernandes joined from West Ham United for £85m, and Jan Paul van Hecke completed a £52m move from Brighton. Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Martin Dubravka all signed on free transfers.

Marmoush transfer follows former City team-mate Savio to Spurs, who signed on Tuesday for a transfer totaling £85m, including add-ons, after being granted permission to undergo his medical on Wednesday.

Savio wasted no time in announcing his presence, as he made his debut for the club during Wednesday’s 5-1 win against Charlton in the Carabao Cup, where he scored and assisted Ben Davies in the victory.

Following his move to Spurs, Omar said: “It feels amazing to be here. I’m so excited to get started with the team and I can’t wait to meet the fans.

“Tottenham Hotspur is one of the biggest clubs in England, if not the world, and the project was very attractive to me.

“I’ve spoken with the Head Coach, I loved what he had to say and I’m sure our passion for the game will go very well together.”

Marmoush will wear the No. 22 shirt.

De Zerbi believes the addition of Marmoush to his squad can take their attacking play to the “next level” with the pace, intelligence and threat he offers in front of goal.

“Omar is exactly the kind of player we want at this club – ambitious, hungry and determined to make a difference,” De Zerbi said.

“He has incredible attacking quality but what I also love is his desire to improve and to win.

“He brings pace, intelligence and a real threat in front of goal, and I believe he can take our attacking play to another level.”
