Barca come back against Atletico to top La Liga

FC Barcelona put up a thrilling comeback against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano on Sunday night in La Liga, winning 4-2 away from home despite going two goals down with 20 minutes to play.

The visitors were far from their best level on the day and lacked their regular attacking conviction in the opening half hour.

10 minutes after, Robert Lewandowski was slotted through on goal courtesy a Pedri Gonzalez pass, yet the Polish skipper failed to convert the chance to put Barca ahead on the night.

Only seconds after, Atletico found themselves on the break and punished their rivals through a Julian Alvarez finish.

The best moment in the game for Diego Simeone‘s men was however yet to come. With 20 minutes until the end of regular time, Alexander Sorloth was found in the Barca box by Conor Gallagher, and the Norwegian striker slotted home to give the hosts a two game advantage.

A positive result from the match looked clearly out of Barca’s reach. However, Robert Lewandowski connected with an Inigo Martinez cross beautifully only a minute after Barca went behind twice, and that opened the game up for a completely different story.

Seven minutes after, Ferran Torres, who came off the bench restored parity for the Blaugrana before the game ended in enthralling fashion.

Barca grabbed the winner through Lamine Yamal in injury time and went on to add a fourth through Torres in the final minute of the game.

The win means the Blaugrana now return to the top of the standings with a game in hand ahead of the international break while Atletico are practically out of the race, being seven points off the top.
