Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren praises team’s progress ahead of WAFCON

Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress after a nine-day training camp at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram.
The camp, which concluded recently, was a crucial preparation for the upcoming Women’s AFCON in Morocco, scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 26.

Bjorkegren believes that the training camp has laid the groundwork for deeper trust, chemistry, and team spirit among his players.
“It has been great. Nine days, like you said, together to get to know even more players. So they have been great; many trainings and a couple of games as well,” he said.
The coach highlighted the importance of spending time with the players to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
“The good thing when you are together for a long time is that you get to know the people.
“That’s the good thing; if someone’s having a bad football day, it’s still going to be a chance tomorrow. You really see the talent when you get time to know the players, not just in one training, but over several days.”
Bjorkegren also spoke about the team’s goal-scoring strategy, stating that they have been testing various players and need to fine-tune their tactics.

“We’ve been testing around with a lot of players, and now we need to get closer to the final pieces. The final piece, when it comes to the tactical aspect, will be the final third and how to connect with the wingers and the number nines.”
The coach emphasized the importance of creating scoring opportunities and converting them into goals.
“That’s maybe the most important part to create more chances and score more goals, and that’s necessary, of course, to win games. So that’s the final part we will work on in the next camp.”
Bjorkegren was impressed with the quality of players that participated in the camp, stating that he can see the talent in them when he spends time with them.
“You can really see the talent in these players when you spend time with them and get to know them.
“Overall, really good. I think there have been five or six that we’ll put on the list and look at a little bit closer: Abigail, Nancy, Fatima, for example, but maybe another two or three as well.”
The Black Queens are set to face a tough challenge in the upcoming Women’s AFCON, where they have been drawn in Group C with South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.
South Africa is the defending champion after winning the 2022 edition, which was also held in Morocco.
