Bukayo Saka set to be ruled out for four weeks with injury

Saka limped off with a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 5-0 home win over Leeds United

Bukayo Saka is expected to miss Arsenal’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool on Sunday, as well as England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia next month, according to BBC Sport.

The 23-year-old limped off with a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 5-0 home win over Leeds United and is expected to be sidelined for up to four weeks.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is also a doubt for the trip to Anfield after suffering a shoulder injury in the same match.

The Norwegian playmaker was forced off in the first half and left Emirates Stadium with his arm in a sling.

While Odegaard has not yet been ruled out of the clash against the Premier League champions, Arsenal remain optimistic that neither he nor Saka will face a long-term spell on the sidelines.

There is particular relief regarding Saka’s condition, as he missed three months of last season with a similar hamstring issue.

The Gunners are better equipped to cope with injuries this season, following the summer arrivals of Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze.

Mikel Arteta can also call on Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri, and Max Dowman to help fill the void.

“For Bukayo to come off, for sure it looks like something that is significant,” Arteta said after the Leeds game.

“He felt something in his hamstring while he was sprinting.

“That’s never a good sign.

“It’s not the same [hamstring] as the previous injury [Saka missed three months of last season with a hamstring injury]. But he’s had these injuries before.

“He knows exactly the feeling of that. So let’s wait. Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. We’ll have to scan him tomorrow and understand a bit better.”
