Chelsea eye Real Betis star Jesus Rodriguez as potential Jadon Sancho successor

Chelsea have been closely following Rodríguez’s progress this season

Chelsea have reportedly identified Jesus Rodriguez of Real Betis as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho.

Rodríguez has made a meteoric ascent, drawing the attention of top European clubs following a series of impressive performances since his senior debut in October.

His recent display against Polish side Jagiellonia in the UEFA Conference League further bolstered his reputation, playing a key role in helping Betis reach the semi-finals.

According to AS, Chelsea have been closely following Rodriguez’s progress and view him as a potential successor to Sancho should a transfer take place in the coming months.

Despite the growing interest in Jesus Rodriguez, Real Betis are reportedly calm about the situation.

The club moved quickly to secure the youngster with a new contract that includes a €35million (£30m) release clause.

Notably, the contract also features a secondary clause, which allows Betis to increase the buyout figure if significant interest arises, providing them with added leverage in future negotiations.

Under the guidance of manager Manuel Pellegrini, Rodríguez has primarily been deployed on the left wing, where he enjoys cutting inside onto his favoured right foot.

However, his versatility has also seen him play on the right flank, occasionally filling in for Antony, who is currently on loan from Manchester United.

Chelsea have already shown a strong interest in emerging talent, most recently securing the signing of Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon.

Although Quenda will remain on loan in Portugal for another season, his acquisition underlines Chelsea’s long-term recruitment strategy.
