Chelsea are in no hurry to get rid of head coach Enzo Maresca, as the club continues to endure poor form in the Premier League.

However, the club have reportedly sent out a word of caution to the Italian manager to turn things around in January after a run of one win in seven league games, or face a potential sacking.

Chelsea are on a run of one win in seven Premier League games to drop 15 points off leaders Arsenal, having trailed by just three on November 22.

Maresca was booed after taking Cole Palmer off against Bournemouth and again at full-time of 2-2 draw on Tuesday night.

Two more disappointing and lacklustre performances at Stamford Bridge against Aston Villa and Bournemouth over the Christmas period have increased the pressure on the Italian.

Maresca’s performance at the club will be reviewed in the summer. However, things could take a different turn if the 45-year-old manager does not find solutions to remedy the dire situation at the club.

Chelsea were sailing on a high trajectory after recording an important 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League in November and sat three points off the top of the table.

However, a series of self-inflicted wounds, some questionable decisions and damaging defeats by Leeds, Atalanta and Aston Villa have put Maresca under more pressure than ever.

Maresca publicly hinted at an unhealthy relationship with the club’s hierarchy earlier in December with a cryptic comments after his side beat Everton 2-0, indicating that the days leading up to the game had been “the worst 48 hours” of his time at the club and that “many people” were not supporting him or the team.

The Blues are clearly ending 2025 with Maresca as the head coach, but he is unlikely to make it to the end of January unless results improve swiftly.

This marks the second consecutive season that Chelsea have stumbled through the winter months under Maresca, echoing last year’s dismal run when they managed just two Premier League wins from mid-December to late February.

In mid-December, Man City were believed to have set sights on Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola replacement if the Spanish manager departs this summer.

While some within Chelsea feel Maresca’s public comments were linked to his desire to force his way out of Stamford Bridge, the Italian manager came out publicly to strongly deny any potential move to the Etihad Stadium.

The numbers do not look pretty for Chelsea lately, and there is growing pressure on the manager to change the fortunes of the club around as soon as possible in the coming months.

January is likely to be a defining month for the 45-year-old with key matches across four competitions, starting with a crunch clash against title-chasing Man City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
