Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal could face disciplinary action from UEFA following an altercation with Bukayo Saka during half-time of Los Blancos’ Champions League defeat to Arsenal.

The incident occurred in the tunnel at the Santiago Bernabéu as the players headed to the dressing rooms on Wednesday night.

Despite being sidelined through injury, Dani Carvajal was present in the tunnel and confronted Saka, putting his hand on the back of the Arsenal winger’s neck.

Saka responded by pushing Carvajal away, prompting staff and players from both sides – including Arsenal substitute Ben White – to intervene and defuse the situation.

Saka quickly exited the scene and appeared to be entirely blameless in the altercation.

Spanish outlet Marca has since reported that Carvajal was incensed by Saka’s decision to attempt a Panenka-style penalty in the first half – a move the Spaniard deemed disrespectful.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, returning from a long injury layoff, comfortably saved the chipped effort.

Saka redeemed himself for his earlier penalty miss with a composed finish midway through the second half

Despite the miss, Arsenal remained firmly in control of the tie, having secured a 3-0 lead in the first leg.

The Gunners saw out the second leg in Madrid and progressed to the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate victory, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.

Saka redeemed himself for his earlier penalty miss with a composed finish midway through the second half, putting the Gunners ahead on aggregate.

Although Vinicius Jr capitalised on a mistake by William Saliba to quickly level the score, Gabriel Martinelli surged forward in stoppage time to seal a dramatic victory for the visitors.

UEFA is now expected to review the incident, and Carvajal could face a ban depending on the governing body’s assessment.
