Fatawu Dauda confident of World Cup if Ghana beats Madagascar

Goalkeepers coach of the Black Stars, Fatawu Dauda, firmly believes that a win over Madagascar would mean almost certain qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana’s hopes of making the mundial were boosted by a huge 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports stadium on Friday, March 21, 2025.

As it stands, the Black Stars are currently top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers with 12 points from a possible 15.

Madagascar on the other hand, are in second place with 10 points and are coming into the game on the back of a big 4-1 victory over Central African Republic.

Fatawu Dauda, who featured for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup and other major tournaments, believes Ghana’s chances will receive a significant boost if they beat Madagascar on Monday evening.

“I am confident. The support from Ghanaians on Friday surprised me greatly. I am sure that those who couldn’t join us from Ghana will keep supporting us. I firmly believe that if we beat Madagascar tonight, we have qualified for the 2026 World Cup in advance,” Fatawu Dauda told 3Sports

The game between Ghana and Madagascar will take place at Mimoun Al Arsi Stadium in Al Hoceima at 19:00 GMT.

The Black Stars began their qualifying campaign in 2023 with a 1-0 victory over Madagascar before going on to lose 1-0 to Comoros a few days later.

In 2024, Otto Addo led the team to back-to-back victories over Mali and Central African Republic. Ghana seeks a fifth appearance at the World Cup after making the editions in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.
