Ghana have received the green light to host the Third Edition of the African Schools Football Championship in Accra from 21-26 April 2025.
The Confederation of African Football(CAF) announced on Monday 17, 2025, Ghana’s position to host the continental finals at the country’s University of Ghana’s Legon Sports Stadium.
The previous competitions were held in Southern Africa (South Africa 2023) and East Africa (Tanzania 2024).
This will be good news for football lovers in Ghana and the entire West Africa – marking the first time the tournament’s continental finals will be held in West Africa – this marks a historic moment.
The maiden edition of the competition was launched by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe in April 2022 in Maputo Mozambique.
Why This Competition?
The competition is aimed at promoting grassroots football and providing an opportunity for young players to freely display their talent, while Africa seeks to unearth the next Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Yaya Toure, Siphiwe Tsabalala, Siyabonga Nomventhe, Benni McCarthy, and the list goes on and on.
The “Inter-Schools” competition has seen more than 1,965,000 boys and girls from 46 countries participate in the Programme since its debut, making it the most successful youth sport mobilization movement in Africa, according to CAF.
In the Zonal Qualifiers that were played between October 2024 and January 2025, 46 countries registered to participate in the 2024/25 season fielding their national school teams.
The winners from the CAF six Zones and the winning boys’ and girls’ teams from the 2023/24 Finals will join the host Ghana for the Continental Finals.
The winner gets USD 300 000, runners up USD 200 000 while second runners-up receive USD 150 000.
