A statement on the club’s official website described Abubakar as “a dynamic and experienced centre-forward whose qualities will add depth and versatility to the squad.”
“Asumah is a dynamic centre-forward known for his pace, strength, and intelligent movement inside the box. His ability to hold up play and finish clinically with both feet provides a fresh attacking option following the unfortunate long-term injury of Franklin Sasere,” the club said.
“He brings valuable international experience, having played in the Netherlands and Switzerland before joining Australia’s A-League with Brisbane Roar. His journey across top European and overseas leagues has shaped him into the right profile the club has been looking for in recent weeks.”
Abubakar, who holds a Portuguese passport, has previously featured for several European sides including Grasshoppers, FC Luzern, and FC Lugano in Switzerland, as well as clubs in the Netherlands.
Born in Ghana, Asumah represented Portugal at youth level, featuring at the UEFA U19 Championship.
Birkirkara welcomed the forward, expressing confidence that his experience and quality will make a significant impact in their campaign.
