Reece James has reflected on his first ever goal for England, revealing he was left a bit ‘surprised’ that his well-taken free kick beat the opposition goalkeeper from about 25 yards.

James, who made his debut for England back in October 2020 grabbed his first goal for the national team in style under Thomas Tuchel on Monday, March 24, as the Three Lions put three past Latvia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Reece James grabbed the opener on the night and told the press after the game that he wasn’t quite expecting his first goal for England to unfold in such remarkable fashion.

“Relaxed celebration? I was surprised it went in.. but looking at the replay it was probably tough for the keeper to get there”, he said.

James’ appearance against Latvia on Monday marked his 17th cap with England as his career has been struck with injuries in the past three years despite making his debut in 2020.
